There are many subjects, themes and ideas in the Bible that need to be clearly understood, otherwise the real message in the Bible gets lost.

You can use this guide for explanations of topics you’d wondered about – or why not explore a new theme?

Since the times when the Bible was written, other meanings to some words and topics have been developed or suggested. It can seem like there are different options or even conflicts, so the original words need to be understood.

These words will be in Hebrew (the ancient language of Israel, rekindled in a different version today), Ancient Greek (which was used as a language to record events around the time of Jesus) or Aramaic (a common, local alternative to Greek).

Using the ancient original versions is the only safe and reliable way to rediscover what the writers meant. They were writing about complex, life-affecting subjects like baptism, the devil or the soul.

The Bible makes the claim that God was the author and the men who wrote the Bible were only writing down the things God wanted them to write. So, if we use the first Bible texts, rather than relying on other things that have been said or written, we will be sure to get God’s original meaning.

This guide doesn’t replace the Bible, but it should help readers understand it correctly. As well as using the original language, let’s look at a few more aims:

  • We want to show different passages in the Bible that provide clear explanations of what various words and topics mean
  • We also want to show subjects which give hope, like promises for the future
