The Balfour Declaration, sent as a letter to Lord Rothschild by A J Balfour, on November 2nd 1917, proposed a ‘national home for the Jewish people’ in Palestine. But when it was written, on behalf of the British government, not many Jews lived there.

Today the population of the Israel is over 8 million.

Israel now leads the world in many areas of scientific research, agriculture and advanced technology.

Despite efforts to destroy the Jews, their survival as a nation and their return to their original homeland was clearly predicted in the Bible thousands of years ago!

Some Bible prophecies about the Jews

Bible prophecies were written over 2000 years ago. Many of these prophecies are about the Jews. Some describe what would happen to them if they disobeyed God’s commands – which they did – so they have suffered persecution and been scattered around the world. Other prophecies predicted their regathering to their ancient homeland just before the the return of Jesus Christ.

So the existence of the State of Israel today proves that God is in control of world affairs and that Jesus will return as promised, to set up God’s worldwide Kingdom on earth very soon.

[the Jews] will become a thing of horror, a byword and an object of ridicule among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you.” (Deuteronomy 28:37 NIV)

“I will not completely destroy you [the Jews]. I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.’” (Jeremiah 30:11 NIV)

I will bring [the Jews]…from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind and the lame, expectant mothers and women in labor…‘He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.” (Jeremiah 31:8-10 NIV)

“I will bring you [the Jews] back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord…I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.”  (Ezekiel 37:12-14 NIV)

The State of Israel established

In 1948, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion reads out the Declaration of Independence for the newly formed State of Israel.

David Ben-Gurion, Prime Minister of Israel, declares independence.

The establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 was truly remarkable. The publication of the Balfour Declaration in 1917 had obviously moved God’s purpose with the Jews forward in the direction long predicted in the Bible.

The land that was still a neglected desert when the Balfour Declaration was written is now one of the most fertile and productive areas of the world, just as the Bible predicted it would be.

The Bible also tells us what will happen next!
